A Long Tradition of Giving Continues

July 1, 2010, Cowansville: The BMP Hospital Auxiliary continues its longstanding support of the BMP Hospital and Foundation with a recent gift of $70,000.

The gift is earmarked for use towards the Foundation’s commitment of $1,000,000 to equip the BMP Hospital with a new digital mammography unit and biopsy table, important additions that are due to be installed and functional at the BMP Hospital before year end.

The gift marks yet another contribution from the Auxiliary, a team of volunteers who have proven their worth over ninety years of service to the Hospital and its patients. Indeed Auxiliary support dates back to the BMP’s very beginning when this volunteer corps prepared bandages and dressings, made pillows, and sewed curtains, clothes and bed linen. They purchased furniture, linen, instruments, and even coal for heating the Hospital building.

Today, Auxiliary members volunteer their time, operating the Hospital boutique and canteen trolley which visit the wards each afternoon and evening. They also host teas, bake sales, and other activities throughout the year to raise additional funding.

Aside from having provided significant investments for medical equipment, the Auxiliary has also provided care manuals for new mothers, sponsored training programs for BMP nurses, and adds many thoughtful and very human touches to our Hospital environment, at Christmas and throughout the year.  

“We are pleased to contribute specifically to this important cause at this time,” commented Auxiliary President Shirley Conner. “Since 1983, the Auxiliary has given a total of $180,000.00 for diagnostic machines for breast cancer. This new, state-of-the art mammography technology will save many, many lives.  It is gratifying to members of The Auxiliary to contribute funds towards helping in the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer.”

The BMP Foundation salutes the Auxiliary team for their continued support. “The BMP Hospital is renowned for the support that it receives from the community at all levels,” comments Foundation President, Pierre Marziali. “The BMP Auxiliary and its dedicated members are very much at the forefront of that support, with all of the work they do so efficiently behind the scenes.”
